Mater Christi celebrated its annual cultural week with colourful displays by our Princesses. The Princesses had been traditionally divided into Hausa, Igbo, Yoruba and Edo cultural groups. Amaefule Esther of the Edo cultural group emerged as Miss Mater, while the Igbo cultural group emerged as the overall winner of the various cultural contests.

Holy Child Invitational Debate Competition.
In commemoration of its 25th anniversary, Holy Child Catholic School, Ado Ekiti organized academic competitions on this day and invited top Catholic schools in the state. For the debate category, Mater Christi was squared up against St Louis Girls’Grammar School, Ikere Ekiti. Represented by the trio of Okeke Mmesoma, Amaefule Esther and Adebayo Olayinka, the school of princesses brilliantly dispatched St. Louis to claim the golden debate crown. The winning Princesses were awarded cash gifts and certificates of participation.

Holy Child Invitational Football Competition.
Still commemorating its 25th anniversary, our footballers visited Holy Child Catholic School, Ado Ekiti a day after our debate victory there. Represented by 11 footballers and 6 substitutes, we defeated the female team of the host school by a well-worked goal that was put in the net by Nwachukwu Chisom. For winning, the team was presented with cash gifts by the Catholic Bishop of Ekiti, Most Rev. Felix Ajakaiye, phd.

JETS Quiz Competition
After emerging the local government champion in science quiz, Abe Deborah proceeded to Christ Girls’School, Ado Ekiti to represent the school and Irepodun/Ifelodun local government in the state finals. The state finals should produce two students to represent Ekiti state in Abeokuta. Brilliant Abe Deborah did not disappoint; she trailed the first position by 6 points to secure the right to represent Ekiti state.

JETS Quiz Competition
Mater Christi also secured the right to represent the local government when its project beat the rest. In Ado Ekiti, the duo of Okoro Blessing and Esianaka Emmanuella were brilliant in their joint presentation of our project that seeks to correct and change our rain-fed agricultural practice in Nigeria; the project coverts sewage and other used and dirty water to domestic and agricultural uses. After answering barrages of questions by judges, our project scored 71.8 points to emerge the second best. This gave the school of Princesses the ticket to also represent Ekiti state in Abeokuta.

Annual JKF Essay Competition.
For the third year in a row, Mater Christi was represented on the biggest stage of essay writing in the south-west. Mater Christi’s Ilori Ayooluwa’s entry was shortlisted for the JKF Essay prize. The JKF Essay Competition is an annual essay contest created three years ago by the present governor of Ekiti state and Chairman Nigerian Governor’s Forum, Dr John Kayode Fayemi. Ilori Ayooluwa’s entry was adjudged the second best after series of local and international scrutiny.

NAFEST Essay Competition.
Ekiti state hosted the 35th National Festival of Arts and Culture. The festival is an annual event that celebrates Nigeria’s rich cultural heritage. States in Nigeria usually send their representatives to compete in culturally related events like essay competition, art and craft, drama, cultural cuisine and the rest. This year’s theme is “Celebrating our unity in diversity.” For the essay category, Ilori Ayooluwa represented Ekiti state. The interesting thing about NAFEST essay contest is that no one gets to know of the essay topic until a minute before the writing hour. Ilori Ayooluwa wrote brilliantly and emerged the national champion.

NAFEST Children Storytelling and Puppetry.
9 students represented Ekiti state in the Children Storytelling and Puppetry competition category at NAFEST.
Oluwagbenga Marvelous (grandma), Adu Adesewa (granddaughter),Olajide Halimat (hawk) and Awe Joy (elephant), Ojo Anjola (spider) and Osuala Ngozi (monkey) led the the conversation that dwells on harnessing the strength in our diversity through storytelling and puppetry. Their performance was adjudged the best; they won the gold gong for Ekiti state.

Christmas Carnival and Carol.
In the happy spirit of Christmas, Mater Christi continued with its culture of happiness, thanksgiving and controlled festivities. Christmas carnival was held as contest between the classes. They interpreted this year’s theme “Happiness of the Best” through their display of dance and deft movements of different countries that had earlier been chosen by their representatives. They also presented songs and dance during the carol of nine lessons. The ultimate class, S.S.S. 3, emerged the best, while S.S.S.2 and J.S.S 2 were first and second runner’s up respectively.

Valedictory Service
The valedictory service was held in honour of our 17th graduating set. After the mass which started at 10:00am and lasted an hour, the reception duly followed. At the reception ceremony, academic and moral prizes were given to deserving winners.

FIESU Essay Competition
The Federation of Iyin Ekiti Students Union organized their inaugural essay competition. Mater Christi’s Ilori Ayooluwa submitted and which was adjudged the second best.
